Enduro Royalty Trust (NDRO): This Beaten Down Royalty Trust Offers An 11% Dividend Yield And Trades Below Book Value - Seeking Alpha

Here is a good article on NDRO with some interesting comments about the company following the article. Enduro Royalty Trust pays an annual dividend of more than 11% in monthly installments.  The reward is probably worth the risk unless a big negative news event happens.  I already own another royalty trust, PBT, and I may buy NDRO also.

Global X Funds (URA): Why Did The Uranium Mining ETF Advance On Its Highest Volume In 3 Years? - Seeking Alpha

This is an excellent article on a possible breakout in the uranium sector.  I own DNN and URG myself, and I am thinking about buying URA, the uranium ETF to gain broad exposure to the field.  We are probably at a bottom, but nobody knows when we will return to $70 uranium.

Global Economic Intersection

Global Economic Intersection

Here is a good article about how to prepare for the next Congressional budget battle in the first quarter of 2014. The author believes that the Congressional conflict will not be as bad as October of 2013 and August of 2011. The article also discusses how the Federal Reserve will probably operate in 2014.  Well prepared investors can increase their odds of making good decisions if the author's predictions turn out to be true.  The bottom line is that the stock market will probably continue its melt upward although strong stocks will do better than weak ones.

2 Ways To Gain MLP Exposure Without The Tax Headache [Alerian Mlp] - Seeking Alpha

2 Ways To Gain MLP Exposure Without The Tax Headache [Alerian Mlp] - Seeking Alpha

This is a great article about MLP ETFs that avoid the K-1 tax form problem of owning individual MLP stocks. KYN has outperformed AMLP in price gain and distribution percent.  It may be the best ETF to own for exposure to MLPs.

Global X Funds (GURU): 2 Market Beating ETFs Use Holdings From Top Hedge Funds - Seeking Alpha

Global X Funds (GURU): 2 Market Beating ETFs Use Holdings From Top Hedge Funds - Seeking Alpha

Here is a good article about two ETFs that track hedge fund holdings. Both of the ETFs have beat the S&P 500.  I especially like GURU which is up 37%.  Part of your portfolio should be linked to stocks that the great investors own.

Dividend Winners

I love owning dividend stocks because you get paid while you wait for other stock opportunities to develop. Several of the dividends that I have collected this month are as follows:  PBT (.106 per share), O (.18), VNR (.207), SDIV (.134), JNK (.20), MRK (.43), HIX (.076), IRET (.13), LNCO (.242), NTE (.45), TWO (.28), PSEC (.11), NYMT (.27), and EHI (.096).

Most of the dividend stocks above pay on a monthly basis, and I like that a lot.  However, the shining star above is NYMT, a REIT that pays a quarterly dividend.  NYMT is currently paying an annual dividend of more than 16%.  I recommend all of the stocks above that I own, but I must also point out that diversification is necessary to avoid a large loss on any stock that might suddenly crash.

ProShares Short VIX Short Term ETF Chart - Yahoo! Finance

ProShares Short VIX Short Term ETF Chart - Yahoo! Finance

This is a chart comparing two non-volatility stocks which are up close to 80% in the past year.  There is virtually no difference between the gains of SVXY and VIX, and VIX remains a cheaper stock to buy.  As long as these stocks continue to rise along with the stock market, they will continue to beat the market.  Double-click on the chart below to expand it.

2007/2013: You Will Never Look At The Markets The Same Way Again - Seeking Alpha

2007/2013: You Will Never Look At The Markets The Same Way Again - Seeking Alpha

Here is another outstanding article by Chris Ciovacco.  He talks about how the Fed's QE matters a lot in the stock market continuing to rise.  Secondly, he emphasizes that the charts reflect what the fundamentals of stocks really are even if we think differently.  He compares 2007 to 2013 to show that we are nowhere near a bear market.  The 50-day and 200-day lines are given to illustrate the value of accepting charts for knowing the direction of stocks.  The 2008-2009 bear market started from a curved stock market top in 2007.  It did not just suddenly drop 50%, and it will not do that today either as long as the economy is above water and the millions of investors are maintaining the charts with a positive slope.  Thirdly, Chris also shows how to evaluate individual stocks like KO compared to its own chart and the S&P 500.  If both charts are pointing down, you should stay away from the stock.

Will Apoptosis Succeed Where Other Cancer Treatments Haven't? Three Companies Trying - Seeking Alpha

This is a great article about anti-cancer drugs and how they work.  The main focus of the article was about apoptosis, and the author talks about three companies with drugs in this area.  It is possible that a multibagger stock could be one of these the three companies involved in apoptosis cancer cures.  CRIS, BLRX, and SNTID are stocks to watch for drug development.

LARCH ARABINOGALACTAN: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions and Warnings - WebMD

LARCH ARABINOGALACTAN: Uses, Side Effects, Interactions and Warnings - WebMD

Here is an interesting article about the benefits of arabinogalactin.  It is a chemical found in Larch trees, and it helps with the common cold and flu.  I recommend the effervescent form that you can mix with water.  Emergen-C has Immune+ packets with arabinogalactin, and the packets also contain a lot of zinc which helps the immune system, too.

MORINGA BENEFITS | Think of Your Wellness

MORINGA BENEFITS | Think of Your Wellness

This is an excellent article about the benefits of moringa.  It promotes better metabolism, improves circulation and liver function, and raises the body's immune system level.  I recommend the good-tasting liquid Moringa manufactured by Dynamic Health, but moringa tea will also probably help.

Electronic Cigarette Industry: Behind the Smoke and Ashes | Bidnessetc

Electronic Cigarette Industry: Behind the Smoke and Ashes | Bidnessetc

Here is an outstanding article at www.bidnessetc.com about electronic cigarettes.  This is a real booming sector that will most likely outperform the general stock market for years to come.  I own Lorillard (LO) myself, and I will be buying more of the company as well as probably other e-cigarette companies like Vapor Corp. (VPCO).

Silver Prices in 2014 Will Ride Higher Thanks to India - Money Morning

Silver Prices in 2014 Will Ride Higher Thanks to India - Money Morning

This is an interesting article about why silver prices are going to rise.  India is loading up on more silver, and the increased demand will lift the price of silver.  Also, we have been hovering around the break-even point for silver miners, and a loss of supply will cause a spike in the price of silver also.

The Big (and Profitable) Changes in MLPs - Money Morning

Here is a good article on how MLPs are expanding their traditional roles.  If you don't mind filling out K-1 tax forms, this will probably be good news for you.  Pipeline MLPs are growing upstream in the direction of drilling for oil and gas and downstream in refining and retail operations.  The author also mentions a cemetery MLP that pays a 9.5% distribution.

Big Income From 2 Equity Dividend ETFs [Global X Funds] - Seeking Alpha

This is a link to an interesting article about two dividend ETFs.  I own SDIV myself, and I have been very pleased with it.  The annual dividend ranges between 6.5 and 8%, and you get paid monthly.  This is excellent for income seekers, and there has been a slight capital gain also in the past year.  The fund tracks 100 different companies for outstanding diversification.  I highly recommend SDIV along with bond ETFs like JNK and PHT which also pay good yields on a monthly basis.

Tired Of Missing Rallies? 4 Ways To Improve Your Game - Seeking Alpha

Tired Of Missing Rallies? 4 Ways To Improve Your Game - Seeking Alpha

Chris Ciovacco has written the best overall market timing article that I have ever seen.  Part of the article involves a binary choice system revolving around what the S&P 500 is doing in relation to its 20 day ema line.  If the S&P is above its 20 day ema, and the slope of the line is going positive, you should be 100% invested.  If the S&P is below the 20 day ema and the line slope points negative, you should be 100% in cash.  Then, Chris also covers two other binary allocation rule situations for 34% invested and for 50% invested.  The S&P chart for the past few months shows that the binary pattern works for being in or out of the stock market.  This will be one of my primary allocation procedures in the future as long as it continues to work.

Secondly, Chris showed an amazing ETF table guide for whether you should be fully invested or not.  If the S&P is leading the bond standard AGG, you should be in stocks.  If XLE energy is beating the S&P, you should be in stocks.  Only when AGG and other defensive stocks are beating the S&P should you be out of the market. Once again, I have never seen a market timing article better than this one, and I plan to use it.

Permian Basin: Is ConocoPhillips' Position Being Overlooked? - Seeking Alpha

Permian Basin: Is ConocoPhillips' Position Being Overlooked? - Seeking Alpha

Here is a good article about how Conoco Phillips is a safe oil company play with a 4% dividend.  Conoco holds important land in the Permian Basin, Eagle Ford, and the Bakken.  Even if the stock price increases only 10-15%, that will be more than a lot of other stocks in a market that is mostly topped out for now.

Gold: A 2 Million Ounce Order Executed? [SPDR Gold Trust (ETF), iShares Gold Trust(ETF), Sprott Physical Gold Trust] - Seeking Alpha

This is a bull and bear article about owning gold and silver.  Goldman Sachs thinks gold could drop to $1,050 an ounce, and this is around the break-even price for mining gold for a lot of companies.  If gold falls that low, there is a good chance for a 20% rebound in both gold and silver.  Stocks to own when precious metals are oversold would be AGQ, AG, GSS, and EXK.

Book Review: Mihaljevic, 'The Manual Of Ideas' - Seeking Alpha

Here is a link to an outstanding book review for The Manual of Ideas, an investing book that helps you navigate highly technical areas of stock market investing.  The book's author talks about how to find out what superinvestors are doing through 13F-HR forms and CIK numbers.  I plan to buy this book myself because searching the SEC website for information can be daunting if you are doing more than a basic company search. The Manual of Ideas also includes red flags to look for in financial statements.  So, this is a worthwhile book review about a great book on investing.

Here is a link to a good article on Obamacare.  It is not perfect, and I don't like the penalties that are threatened if you don't co-operate.  However, it will help people get health insurance who would not have been able to get it otherwise.  Hopefully, Congress will chisel the program into good shape over time.  This is an excellent article to get a better picture of what we can expect from the Affordable Care Act.

Vanguard Natural Resources, LLC | NYSE: VNR

Vanguard Natural Resources, LLC | NYSE: VNR

This is a link to the Vanguard Natural Resources website (VNR).  I own the stock myself, and I am happy with the company so far.  VNR pays monthly distributions of the 9% annual dividend.  The website is very user friendly also.

For example, there is a K-1 section for filling out those forms.  You can download PDF files for the quarterly fact sheet and the annual report.  You can listen to earnings call webcasts and get email alerts.  The company has a sound oil and gas business in several of the greatest oil places in America like the Permian Basin and the North Dakota Bakken area.  I highly recommend buying and holding the stock.

This is a link for how credit card information can be stolen by high tech devices.  Although the article did not mention gas stations, credit card skimming has happened there also even while it may have been a different method.  The rise of wireless transactions will make skimming easier, too.  So, in order to protect yourself, everyone should be aware of how credit card information can be stolen.

Environmentalists Oppose Augusta Resource Corp.

Home

Here is a link to an environmental group that has almost destroyed the hopes of copper mining in Arizona by Augusta Resource Corporation (AZC).  While it is certain that the mine will have a noticeable impact in the immediate area of the mine, it is unlikely that Augusta's mine will be any worse than other mines in Arizona.  The jobs that will be created by the company should offset any possible harm to a small section of the Arizona mountains.  I am a stock holder of AZC, and other shareholders should be aware of this damaging environmental group.

Here is a great article about Canadian companies that will be involved in the LNG export business of western Canada.  Some of them pay decent dividends while you wait for a capital gain.  I also like Precision Drilling (PDS) which was one of the companies mentioned by the author.  I have owned PDS in the past, and I am watching it currently for a good buying entry point.

Biotech ETFs Plummeting [Gilead Sciences, Inc., Celgene Corporation, Amgen, Inc., iShares NASDAQ Biotechnology Index (ETF), SPDR S&P Biotech (ETF)] - Seeking Alpha

This is an excellent article about three biotech index ETFs.  The three stocks have averaged 37% year-to-date. Biotech stocks like GILD and REGN have been hot, and the ETFs that track this sector have been doing well, too.  The author also points out that all three stocks have a low expense ratio, only a fraction of 1%, and this means the price gain of these ETFs is virtually the same as your gain.  Drug stocks could remain stock market favorites for a long time, especially with an aging baby-boomer generation.

3 Low P/E Financial Stocks Yielding Over 10% [Prospect Capital Corporation, Arlington Asset Investment Corp, Ellington Financial LLC] - Seeking Alpha

Here is a great article on dependable financial high-paying dividend stocks.  I own Prospect Capital (PSEC) myself.  The company's dividend is around 12%, and the money is paid in monthly installments.  All three of the companies that the author mentioned seem to be good investments so that you can be paid while you wait in an uncertain stock market.

ProShares Ultra Nasdaq Biotechn Stock Chart | BIB Interactive Chart - Yahoo! Finance

Here is a link to BIB, a leveraged biotech index ETF.  I have included the same chart below because the Yahoo link will probably update the chart of BIB as time goes on, and the classic screen below might be missed. Notice how it is safe to own BIB when the price is above the 144 day line.  Also, as long as the 144 day line is still sloping upward, there is no need to worry about occasional downturns on the daily price chart.  BIB was up 92% for the year shown below.  How many stocks could beat that?

SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF (DIA): Yield Seekers Surge The Dow After Rare Penetration Of Its 200 Day Moving Average - Seeking Alpha

This is an outstanding article about how yield seekers are holding up the stock market.  Since the 5-year treasury yield is less than the advance of inflation, and bank yields are no better, investors are flocking to higher yields in the stock market even when the market is overbought.  We could gradually creep up for years because we have no better investment alternatives.

The author talks about the Dow, S&P 500, and low cost Vanguard ETFs like VTI, Total Stock Market, and VOO, the S&P500.  VOO has gained almost 20% year-to-date.  I have shown a Yahoo chart of VOO below. Double-click on the chart to expand it.

Shopping Health Care: Over 65 - iVillage

This is an important article about Obamacare.  If you are over 65, Obamacare does not apply to you because you are covered by Medicare.  Also, the article lists various small penalties if you don't buy insurance.  If this news is correct, then the rumors of $2,000 to $5,000 non-insurance penalties are false.

CANADIAN OIL SANDS (COSWF.OB): This Oil Stock Has A 7% Yield And 50% Upside - Seeking Alpha

Here is a very informative article on Canadian Oil Sands.  The 7% yield sets it apart from other oil sands companies, and I believe the price of oil is sustainable where it is.  Even after the recent stock market sell-off due to budget problems in Congress, the stock market is somewhat overvalued.  I think COSWF will hold up better than other stocks if the market continues to fall, and you will get paid to wait.

InvenSense Inc (INVN): InvenSense: Exciting Catalyst Approaching - Seeking Alpha

This is an excellent article with good comments about InvenSense.  I own the stock myself, and I plan to buy more.  INVN is an unusually great stock that is holding up more than other stocks while the market is crashing hard due to battles in Congress over the budget and the debt ceiling.  It is still above the 50 day average line, and I believe the uptrend of InvenSense is intact.

Get Set For The Relief Rally [SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust, PowerShares QQQ Trust, Series 1 (ETF), SPDR Dow Jones Industrial Average ETF] - Seeking Alpha

This is a good article by Cam Hui about a possible stock market rally after the debt ceiling is resolved. Everything will not be all roses, though, for a continued bull market because a lot of companies are not participating in the stock market rise.  This is a sign of a stock market top, but as Cam pointed out, it may be months before the collapse is seen.

U.S. Senate Democrats Plan to Introduce Debt Ceiling Increase

U.S. Senate Democrats Plan to Introduce Debt Ceiling Increase

Here is an article for a non-inflammatory bill that will enable Obama to raise the debt ceiling unless 2/3 of Congress disapproves.  Similar action has been done in the past to diffuse tensions and keep the government functioning.  Then, the Republicans can blame the national debt on Obama.  I suspect that something like this will happen in the next two weeks, and this will end the stock market downturn.

Cash Is King

We are currently going into the 2nd week of the 2013 fall Congressional budget battle.  There is no end in sight for the government shutdown and the debt ceiling limit debate that is coming up in eleven days.  In years past, when our divided Congress could not agree on big issues, some people fled to bonds and others fled to gold for safety.  Now, even those trades are not working.

The price of TLT, the 20+ year treasury bond ETF, has gone nowhere this past week and neither has the price of gold.  These are now busted safe havens, and the stock market is no relief either because stocks are overbought.  Since bond yields are rising, the price of bonds will continue to fall, and people will not pay more than $1300 per ounce for gold.  So, cash is the only safe haven left.  Then, when stocks finally decline in the near future, the cash can be put to work in quality stocks at that time.  It is a waiting game for now, and patience will reward those who wait.

As I do occasionally, I will talk about subjects other than the stock market.  The above link goes to an outstanding website where you can learn all about digital TV, and you can buy the accessories that you need.  For example, if your cable TV goes out during a weekend, you could be without any TV channels for days before a cable TV repairman gets around to you.  If you are able to buy a DTV converter box and a good antenna locally, you could be viewing TV a lot sooner, although you may only have public channels until your cable problem is fully resolved.  Something is better than nothing.  The above website is definitely worth bookmarking if you ever have TV problems.

Here is an SEC report filed by Berkshire Hathaway for revenues and cash as of June 30, 2013.  I know this document is somewhat old, but the Q3 report is not out yet.  The point I want to make is that Berkshire was holding a lot of cash as of June 30.  If Warren's cash starts increasing in subsequent quarters, it may be a sign of a stock market top if he cannot find any bargains to buy.

Stock Physics: How Newton's Third Law Of Motion Applies To The Market - Seeking Alpha

Stock Physics: How Newton's Third Law Of Motion Applies To The Market - Seeking Alpha

This is a good article about how you need to be nimble in the stock market nowadays.  XLU, the utility stock ETF, took a tumble this past summer when the Fed started talking about tapering its bond purchases.  Of course, bond stocks also fell.  The point here is that neither bonds nor utility stocks are safe in a rising interest environment.  Eventually we will have a stock market crash, and cash may be the best place to be when that happens.

In the meantime, PSEC, a business development company is probably a good stock to own because they pay an annual dividend of around 12% in monthly installments.  You can look at the chart below and see that it is somewhat stable, and you continue to be paid monthly dividends whenever the stock does happen to dip.  You could even buy more shares when it pulls back.  Double click on the chart to expand it.

The Four Pillars Holding Up The Stock Market Are Crumbling | The Felder Report

This is a link to an outstanding Felder Report about the four pillars of the stock market.  They are fundamentals, technicals, sentiment, and macro.  All four of these pillars point to a bearish outlook now although we still might have a November-December rally if we get past the budget crisis and the debt ceiling battle.  The stock market can continue to creep up for a long time, but I doubt the overall gains will be much more than high paying dividend stocks.

This is an excellent article discussing the debt ceiling.  The author pointed out that we could raise the debt ceiling to around $18 trillion, and we will be okay until December of 2014.  Ultimately, we should not be funding any new programs.  We need to be able to live under current conditions so that things don't get worse.

Prospect Capital Corporation (PSEC): Prospect Capital Corp.'s Dividend Sustainability Analysis (Post Fiscal Q4 2013 Earnings) - Part 2 - Seeking Alpha

Here is a very technical article about how PSEC is a buy at $10.90 or lower.  I currently own the stock which pays a dividend of around 12% annually, and you get paid in monthly installments.  PSEC is definitely a worthwhile stock for a diversified portfolio.

Mosquito Bites Allergies Symptoms and Treatment

Mosquito Bites Allergies Symptoms and Treatment

This is another website with helpful information about mosquito bites.  It is best to avoid dusk at all times because that is one of the times when mosquitoes are more active.  In my own experience, I have been bitten more than twice as much at dusk compared to later in the night when the sun has been down a long time.

Here is another helpful website with information about mosquito bites, WebMD.  The website gives information about how to avoid mosquito bites along with a lot of other health information.

As I occasionally do for this blog, I have given a health link about mosquito bites.  The best way to avoid mosquito bites at night is to wear long pants and a long-sleeve shirt.  If you are bitten, the website I have referenced advises using alcohol to reduce itching and swelling.  Since serious diseases can be carried by mosquitoes, you should see a doctor immediately if something more than the normal itching occurs such as fever or diarrhea.

Alaska's zombie gold mine to nowhere | Resource Investor

Alaska's zombie gold mine to nowhere | Resource Investor

Everyone needs a balanced portfolio, and this includes considering gold and silver stocks for part of your money.  I know precious metals are not in favor right now, but you could have a cash position ready for buying a couple of gold or silver stocks at sector bottoms.  ResourceInvestor.com is a great place to go for news and stories involving gold, silver, and other metals.

I currently own Northern Dynasty (NAK) for gold and Hecla (HL) for silver.  I also like other precious metal stocks like First Majestic (AG), Pershing Gold (PGLC), and Golden Star Resources (GSS).  Demand for gold and silver will not be going away.  Just try to buy quality stocks with low operating costs when they are severely oversold.

Pershing Gold Corp (PGLC.OB): High-Grade Drill Holes De-Risk And Enhance Pershing Gold - Seeking Alpha

This is a great article about Pershing Gold.  The company will be one of the lowest cost gold miners in the world.  Since the price of gold is much lower than it was in the past, efficient gold miners like Pershing will be profitable while other miners may have to stop production, especially if the price of gold drops toward $1,000 per ounce.  Another important point to remember is that people are still buying gold, particularly in the far East. The demand for gold will put a bottom under the price of gold at some point if the supply of gold starts to come up short.  So, Pershing is a good investment in my opinion since they will make money no matter what happens.
